Marcin Zdunik
A virtuoso, educator, and complete artist
Marcin Zdunik, a cellist and one of the most outstanding Polish classical musicians, performs music ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary works, while also improvising, arranging, and composing. He is a remarkable individualist and, at the same time, a complete artist who can brilliantly perform the most famous cello concertos, only to play an improvised concert a moment later, or compose a piece for choir and orchestra that completely immerses the listener in sound and emotion.
The two-disc album Bach Stories, which he recorded together with pianist Aleksander Dębicz—the artistic director of the Break in Classic festival—is an extraordinary record where transcriptions of Bach's chorales intertwine with improvisations by both musicians. British reviewers wrote that they "take the listener on a journey into surprisingly deep and new musical waters."
Marcin Zdunik has released over a dozen albums, three of which have won the prestigious Fryderyk Award: in 2010, 2022, and 2024. He performs all over the world but also shares his knowledge and experience with young artists—he teaches cello classes at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
